Simple Mother's Day card

This example started off wanting to show you how to make a photoshop brush out of a silk flower.  It turned into something else......a quick Mother's Day card.  I found this silk flower around the house and while it is not attractive, I knew it would work.  When you take pictures of objects that you may want to extract or change the background, take it against a white piece of paper.  If your object has white in it, choose a color that your object does not have.  Take the photo with flat even lighting so you do not have shadows to try and extract.  Here is my image.

I applied the "Accented Edges" in the "Brush Strokes" section of Filters and this is what I got:

I then applied "Cut Out" from the "Artistic" section of Filters and this is what I got:

Now go to "Select" at the top menu and select "Color Range".  If you have all white you will see that right away and press OK.  You now can choose "Layer" from the top menu then "New Layer Fill" and finally "Color".  You can add any color you want.  I chose a very contrasting color. I then went to Filters and chose "Texture".   Add some words and this is my final card.
